The demand is too high for these 2 species. Good news is senegal is such a successful species in the wild its tough to really put them in any danger. And african grey can be so easily bred even in household situation. Captive bred Grey are so readily available on planet earth I dont see why they still bother to find them in the wild.
Wild caught parrots does sound like a really bad thing, for some species, but not so with most African species except for ruppells and niam niam. I dont know, its not as bad as 20 or maybe 30 years ago. Most "still-exist" species are now put in captivity with breeding success. I even seen photos with a dozen of Spix in it. And most common cockatoo and lory or lorikeet are still everywhere in Australia. Many are still considered pest. Just that I think wild caught parrots are no longer such a big concern in recent years.. |
