我知道太遠香港應該冇乜人會去,只係想比大家知道有一個出名鸚鵡繁殖場.
知道有一個 Loro Parque 基金會,用來繁殖瀕臨絕種鸚鵡.
Extinct in the wild since 2000, the [Spix’s Macaw] is the world’s rarest parrot, but numbers in captivity look set to rise as the Loro Parque Foundation, Tenerife, has successfully bred another chick as part of its 20 year conservation programme. The sex of the chick has been determined as female, and when mature she will play a pivotal role in the breeding scheme. The Brazilian government owns this and all the other Spix’s Macaws maintained by the Foundation within this important partnership.
Discovered in 1817, the Spix’s Macaw has had a history as colourful as its blue plumage. Native to Brazil, the bird was last seen in Britain at London Zoo in 1902. Numbers were severely depleted throughout the 20th Century due to heavy deforestation and poachers profiting from their rise in value. By 1987 only three birds were spotted in the wild, with the last sighting in 2000.
Dr David Waugh, Director at the Loro Parque Foundation, commented: “There are only 73 Spix’s Macaws in the captie breeding programme, and therefore birth of this chick is a major global environmental victory. This new female will help to maintain the gene pool available for future breeding of this incredibly rare species, decreasing the risk of total extinction.” He continued: “Here at the Loro Parque Foundation, we are committed to the survival of this species and have already successfully bred six Spix’s Macaws here in Tenerife.”
The chick is in excellent condition and developing perfectly, and is now in the company of one of its older siblings. The Loro Parque Foundation has invested £472,248 to date to aid the recovery of this species and is an official breeding centre.作者: cheerios 時間: 2010-11-25 01:20
