Personally, I am not against clipping, but it is my opinions that one should at least let the bird learn to takeoff, descent and land, let it master the skill of flying and train the bird all the flying related restrain commands before clipping the bird. An escaped bird (even clipped) with flying skill (and proper recall training) is a lot easier to retrieve when you sight it. But most importantly, if you fail to find it quickly, it has a lot higher survival chance if it knows how to fly, be it finding food and water by itself, or find another human to beg for food, and to avoid predators.
IMHO, it is irresponsible to totally deprive a parrot from flying. It is always better to let it learn and master flying and related restraining commands in a controlled environment then proceed to clip the bird, but instead, many people refuse to believe so, and end up the bird flying the first time by its instinct in a total panic. |
